In the past when i have traveled I usually go with friends or family who pick out the hotel for me. This is the first time i got to pick since it was a trip i was going to by myself. The minute I saw my room I was in love and had no regrets picking this hotel. I expected a room in the middle and one or two windows. Instead I got a corner room with 4 window and on THE 10TH FLOOR (out of 11)!!! I know that it's only the corner room that gets this but I didn't request it so I was happy with it. I also got the pretty side of the hotel looking down at the theater. Not only was the room beautiful but also the lobby. The decoration was on par with the thd Mad Hatter theme they had going on. The restaurant that was downstairs was really good too. I don't usually like or order fish but that night I felt like changing it up a bit. I had the salmon and it was the best one I've ever had. It was flavorful and not dry and the vegetables that came with it paired well with the fish. I think the sauce was amazing too. The next day I walked and rented a scooter and was able to check out most of the surrounding blocks within 3 hours including getting breakfast nearby. Gene Leahy Mall was really close that was a 3-4 min scooter ride away and when i looked it up it was only a 10 min walk. The same could be said for Old Market. That same night I had asked one of the receptionist if she ever heard anything good about a bar nearby, unfortunately she said she hadn't but if I went I should let her know what my thoughts were incase anyone else asked. After that she recommended the Wicked Rabbit which was right next door. I went to the first bar and when I came back she asked me right away how it went. The conversation was very genuine and much appreciated! I also went to the Wicked Rabbit and it was the coolest bar i've been too. It was a speakeasy and i wouldn't have found it or gone there if she hadn't recommended it and told me the name of the "front.

Visited the Gateway of the West to walk in the footsteps of Warren Buffett (which would then hopefully lead to improved investment results). Where would the Oracle stay? I think he would avoid the most expensive hotel in Omaha, so The Farnam, Autograph Collection at $250/night+ tax, was most definitely out. I decided to go with the Hotel Deco. It was one of those hotels that has a great downtown location, with acceptable rates. And with solid reviews, I knew that it would be acceptable to everyone involved. I used booking.com to book a fully cancelable room for $111/night + tax, then over the next two weeks canceled and rebooked twice until victory was achieved at $87/night + tax. The room (#914) was a real gem, a very large suite with a desk for blogging this very blog, great views, TCM, and just when you think it can't get any better . . . a defined yoga space. The hotel offered valet parking at $25/night, which seemed a little steep, though there was an adjacent lot at $10/day. The hotel mentioned that street parking (9am-9pm) is metered, though "if you forget to pay the penalty is only $10 if paid within 48 hours." I decided to go with the plentiful street parking and forgot to pay each and every day. Never saw a parking enforcement agent or a parking ticket.

Stayed here with a small group for a fun long weekend. The hotel is really great. Really cool art deco design. Clean, comfortable. My room happened to be quite large, like a suite on the top floor: lots of windows, bit of a view, couch and chairs, really spacious, but I know others in my group had regular-sized typical hotel rooms, but just as lovely. Location is great. Friendly helpful staff. It was nice NOT staying at a big chain hotel…not sure if this on is owned by one of the biggies but they don’t splash that in your face.

The historic hotel has all the charm and character of yesteryear but with the comforts of today. We loved the Art Deco architecture and furnishings and the quirky Alice in Wonderland touches. The staff were fun and helpful. The food in the restaurant was delicious. The hotel is located an easy walk from Old Market destinations and a short drive to museums and the Zoo. Our stay at the hotel made our Omaha vacation something special!

Second stay at Hotel Deco. While I didn't get a corner suite this time the room was well-appointed and the view terrific, plus I just love Art Deco style. I was a little disappointed the bar was closed early on a weeknight, but from a business standpoint I perfectly understand it being a slow night. The staff is always friendly and helpful and the valet parking is a plus.
